Sabai Sabai Gift: More than just a gift, a story from Thailand

From durian chips to a jar of chilli paste that makes a bowl of plain rice worth remembering, every product is made in Thailand. This September, we would like to add one more Thai thing to the box: a small pouch, hand-stitched in a quiet village Northern Thailand.

It all began with…

Nanachart began in 2023 with one goal: bring the best of Thailand to Singapore. Every item is handpicked from small independent Thai brands and curated with our customers in mind. The love our customers have shown us over the years is what made us want to give something back.

Hence, we have launched Sabai Sabai Gifts as a thank you to you, our customers as well as to the local community in Thailand who raised us.

Meet Wiang Hom Na, our partner for this campaign

Similar to how we source our products, we wanted the gift to be local and unique to Thailand. We came across Wiang Hom Na, a local manufacturer based in Phrae, a quiet province in Northern Thailand known as "indigo cloth and teak wood." It is currently run by a small team of eight people, led by Natnicha Saenum.

Natnicha grew up watching skilled artisans in her community. Inspired by their craftsmanship, she wanted to bring local heritage into everyday life by focusing on compact, practical everyday pouches. Since the neighboring village had already been dyeing Mor Hom cloth (deep indigo blue fabric) for generations, she decided to put the two together.

"We only made two or three designs at first," she told us, "but the response was so good and it gave us the confidence to keep going." It still remains very much a family project. Her mother, a former sewing teacher, oversees the patterning and precision cutting, ensuring that every piece meets high standards while preserving authentic local craftsmanship.

We asked Natnicha what she wants a customer to feel when they open one of her bags, and she talks about the love and care behind the process rather than trends. "Every bag that leaves our shop, we make with more than a hundred percent of our heart," she says.

The fabric behind the story

Every Wiang Hom Na bag starts with the same deep indigo blue cloth, a fabric with a story that goes back generations before the shop existed.

Mor Hom cloth belongs to Thung Hong, a community in Phrae settled by the Tai Phuan people, who are credited with the dyeing tradition. Its colour comes from the Hom plant, a local shrub fermented in water until it turns deep blue, then worked into the cloth layer after layer in a process known as Kor Hom  or “building the indigo.”

Historically worn as everyday farmwear, Mor Hom later became something people wear with pride on festival days, a quiet symbolic attire of northern Thai identity passed down since the Tai Lue and Lanna kingdoms. When you receive a Wiang Hom Na pouch, you are holding a technique that has outlived generations, carried into a small modern design.

So what exactly is Sabai Sabai Gifts?

Sabai Sabai Campaign is a gift with purchase campaign. Spend $35 or more on any order from Nanachart, and you will receive a free handmade pouch from Wiang Hom Na, our community partner for this round.

What's inside the box

This round of the Sabai Sabai campaign has two collections, one revealed each month. Every qualifying order this September receives our first design, and the second stays under wraps until October. The pattern is a surprise too. From cotton and hand-tied mudmee-style weaves, elephant motifs, florals to geometric prints, whichever design you receive, the bag has been through the same hands-on process.

Nanachart buys every piece directly from Wiang Hom Na. We know our part in this is small, but we hope to support the local community and the hands behind the work and share their story with everyone across the world.

Sabai Sabai Gifts runs from 1 – 30 September 2026
